David Raphael B.A. | M.L.A. | ASLA
Principal | Landscape Architect & Planner.
David Raphael, Principal and founder of LandWorks, is a graduate, with honors, of Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where he studied graphic design. He attended Harvard University Graduate School of Design with a Crocker Scholarship and graduated with a Masters in Landscape Architecture.
He is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers, and the American Planning Association. David has also been an Associate Professor in the Graduate Program in Urban and Environmental Policy at Tufts University, on the faculty of Middlebury College, and currently is a Lecturer in the University of Vermont Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources where he teaches courses in aesthetics, environmental design, and landscape architecture.
David Raphael has been Chairman of his local Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment for over 15 years and was a founding member of the Middlebury Design Advisory Committee, and thus he has first-hand experience from both sides of the table. In the Town of Panton, a rapidly growing transition town, he spearheaded a funded project to reconcile the Town Plan with the community's long-standing zoning ordinance. He is readily familiar with the regional planning process and is a delegate to the Addison County Regional Planning Commission. His work as a consultant in both the private and public sectors allows him to bring a distinct and valuable perspective to the community design exercise, and to sustain a commitment to developing a clear and comprehensive report of outcomes and drawings which reflect the community's vision and provide a framework for future planning projects.
Mr. Raphael's work and that of the firm has been published in Landscape Architecture magazine and Architecture magazine and currently one of the firm's projects, the Danville Transportation Project, is being featured on the U.S. Department of Transportation's web page as an innovative example of contextual and consensus based design in the public realm.
